During the year of 1998
I criticized the Newsletter of Hong Kong Student Society Australian National University(ANU) was published in July 1998, the Newsletter has a sentence saying: "......we all are vagrant overseas Chinese......". The sentence was written in Chinese as below:
峹 "....... AڬҬOy ~sǤH ......"
This not only damages our Australian Chinese feeling, but also damages Hong Kong's reputation, damages Australian reputation and damages ANU's reputation as well.
You know, ignore the Chinese people from Mainland China and else where, just ask one of people who comes from Hong Kong, who is leading a vagrant life in Australia?
As some of members of Hong Kong Student Society are Australian, are they leading a vagrant life in Australia?
And so most members of Hong Kong Student Society are ANU' students, are we vagrant?
No!!!
We are students of ANU, we are educated and qualified people after finish study in ANU, and be the talented people working for the society.
Since I came to Australian National University, I really feel that it is true that Australian National University is a famous university; the professors and lecturers are very good, not only they are teaching hardly and helping students warmly, but also they have very high reputation in academic and research. We have Nobel prize winner of medical research. ANU is ranking one of top universities in Australia.
At that time, I also reported to the president of Student Association ANU (year 1998).
And I wrote to the editor of Chinese Newspaper, they replied me with support to criticise the sentence saying: "......we all are vagrant overseas Chinese......" as well.
Also Ms Chen from Consular of Culture, Chinese Embassy Canberra Australia, was angry and said that they can't use that sentence saying: "......we all are vagrant overseas Chinese......".
I tried to make it easy by asking the president (Samuel) Ng Ka Chi and committee members such as: (Martin) Su Zhao Zhen and Alex Sze.....ect of Hong Kong Student Society of year 1998 to correct it and make apologize, but they didn't listen to me, instead of start hating me since then.
Later I received telephone calls of threatening me while I was living in Toad Hall in 1998, also e-mails. But I tried to take it easy and make peace by ignoring these. Some people are making reprisals to me, include slandering me.
Actually it is very normal to discuss articles that have been published; we are talking sense and follow the law.
If they make the wrong thing to say: : "......we all are vagrant overseas Chinese......". Then they should make apologize and accept punishment, since this damages feeling and reputation!
If my critique is wrong, then I will make apologize and accept punishment.
